Green Globs & Graphing
Equations
What You
Receive When You Order the Green Globs & Graphing Equations Package
The
package currently consists of the PC version and the Mac OS X version
(both available
now) of Green Globs & Graphing Equations.
It may include additional software in the future. There is no copy
protection.
Information for the PC
version (information for the Mac OS X version follows):
You will need
about 4
MB of disk space, and a monitor with resolution at least 1024 by
768. (The graphing display windows use most of a 1024 by 768
display.) Technically,
the program assumes a DPI setting of "normal", which is the
default. (DPI is an advanced setting under the display option in
the Control Panel. If you're not familiar with it, your setting
is probably "normal".)
You will
receive one invoice for the entire package. The invoice will
accompany the Mac OS X version. For the PC version,
you will receive, at the email address you specify in your order, a
group of files compressed into one ".zip" file. (The email
address you
provide should be capable of receiving attachments.) When you open the zip
file, you will have these files:
- Read
Me Install
Green Globs.txt
- a text file about installing the PC version.
- Green
Globs Manual PC.pdf - a file
containing a teacher’s manual that provides descriptions of each
program, detailed
descriptions of all the Teacher Options, suggestions for classroom use,
and student
worksheets. Revised for the current PC
version. You may want to read the "Getting Started" chapter in
the manual before installation, but it is not required for installation.
The remaining files are a compressed package which installs the two
files below in a folder you designate. Green Globs.exe is a Windows
application file which is programmed in Visual Basic 6. It will run in
any folder, as long as Green Globs Records.ggg is in the same folder.
The installation package automatically installs the necessary Visual
Basic 6 run-time support files in the appropriate Windows folders, and
places in your designated folder a
log file which the Windows Control Panel uses if you uninstall Green
Globs.
- Green Globs.exe is a Windows application file
whose title screen says "Green Globs & Graphing Equations".
For convenience in Windows, the file name is just Green Globs.exe. This application
file contains four
programs: Equation Grapher, Linear & Quadratic Graphs,
Green Globs, and Tracker. It also
contains Teacher Options for creating and managing Records files.
- Green
Globs
Records.ggg - a
document file created by the application file. This
holds the top Green Globs and Tracker games. You
can create more of these files, so
different groups of users can save their games separately.
This file also contains your license
information, which Green Globs & Graphing Equations displays
on the title screen.
To install the PC version
of Green Globs
&
Graphing Equations, run application file "setup.exe". It will ask
you to designate a folder for the above two files. Teachers
should
put a
password on their Green Globs Records.ggg file(s) before students use
them.
If you are
upgrading from the previous PC version of Green
Globs & Graphing Equations, there are two menu items in the Teacher
Options menu that provide conversion for your old
Records files
and List files, respectively. See the "Getting Started" chapter in the
manual.
The previous PC version was written in Visual Basic 3, and had a
completely different setup. You can uninstall the previous
version without affecting the installation of the new Visual Basic 6
version, but you may want to convert or copy your old Records files
before uninstalling the previous PC version. The previous
version's application name was GG&GE.exe, and it came with Records
file GE.rec.
Information for the Mac OS X
version:
You will receive, at the
email
address you specify in your order, an email with an invoice and a
Macintosh
disk image
file (“DMG”)
attached. The disk image file will contain
a
folder named Green Globs.
(See installation instructions below.) The email address you
provide should be capable of receiving attachments.
The Green Globs folder contains four files:
- Green
Globs & Graphing Equations - an application file
that
runs under Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard, and should run under earlier
versions of Mac OS X. This application
file contains four
programs: Equation Grapher, Linear & Quadratic Graphs,
Green
Globs, and Tracker. It also
contains Teacher Options for creating and managing Globs/Tracker
Records files.
- Globs/Tracker
Records -
a
document file created by the application file. This
holds the top Green Globs and Tracker games. You
can create more of these files, so
different groups of users can save their games separately.
This file also contains your license
information, which Green Globs & Graphing Equations displays
on the title screen.
- Green
Globs Manual.pdf - a file
containing a teacher’s manual that provides descriptions of each
program, detailed
descriptions of all the Teacher Options, suggestions for classroom use,
and student
worksheets. Revised for Mac OS X.
- Installation
Notes for
Green Globs
- a brief text file with the installation and
upgrading notes below.
To install the Mac OS X
version of Green Globs
&
Graphing Equations, open the disk image
file (“DMG”)
that you received, and copy the Green Globs folder
to the
Applications folder (or other folder of your
choice)
of your hard disk drive. There is no copy
protection, and there is no installation
program to run. Teachers
should
put a
password on their Globs/Tracker Records file(s) before students use
them.
If
you are
upgrading from the previous Mac version of Green
Globs & Graphing Equations, the
Globs/Tracker Records files
you were using with your previous version will work with the new
version
automatically. The new application file Green Globs &
Graphing
Equations has the same creator signature (“GGGE”) as the previous
application file. By default, OS X will use the new version when
you open
any Globs/Tracker Records file, List file, or file containing saved
work.
(You can confirm this in the “Get Info” for such a file after you
install the
new version.) You can continue to use your old Globs/Tracker
Records
files with the new version of Green Globs & Graphing Equations.
